A windcheater is a light shell that zips up the front and goes into a bag when the sun comes out. In Australia the same word also names a jumper, so it is worth saying which one you are looking at. Ours are windproof and gale-proof, which is enough for an exposed corner and a headwind on the way to the station. They are shower-proof as well, and that covers the rain arriving between the car and the front door.

Windbreaker is the same jacket under a different name. Wind cheater gets typed as two words as often as one, and both land here. A hood is the real choice left. With a hood you can skip the umbrella, and without one the jacket folds smaller and sits flatter under a bag strap.
